VO₂ max testing for Carmel triathletes

VO₂ Max Testing for Carmel & Carmel Valley Triathletes

Carmel and Carmel Valley triathletes enjoy 17-Mile Drive cycling, Carmel Beach swims, and Point Lobos trail runs. Specialized metabolic testing is scarce on the Monterey Peninsula. Our Santa Cruz facility is 45 minutes north on scenic Highway 1. Sport-specific VO₂ max testing on the Wahoo KICKR Bike and treadmill delivers bike and run zones for Big Sur Triathlon, Monterey Bay events, and Ironman. Combine testing with a Santa Cruz training day.

Why Carmel Triathletes Travel to Santa Cruz for Testing

Carmel's active community trains on world-class terrain—Carmel Valley Road climbs, Highway 1 coastal rides, Laguna Seca access, 17-Mile Drive. But multi-sport demands sport-specific zones. VO₂ max testing reveals bike zones (power and HR) and run zones (pace and HR) that differ by discipline. Know how to pace the bike so you have legs for the run. Similar coastal environment—Santa Cruz and Carmel share sea-level conditions.

Big Sur Triathlon: Local iconic race. Get tested 8–12 weeks out for optimal pacing strategy.

Carmel-area triathletes train on 17-Mile Drive, Carmel Valley Road, Highway 1, Point Lobos, and Garland Ranch. Testing applies to all:

  • Run: Zones for 17-Mile Drive runs, Point Lobos trails, Carmel Beach tempo
  • Long-course: Fat oxidation zones for 70.3 and Ironman bike legs

VO₂ Max Test: $250 per discipline. Korr CardioCoach, 5-zone system, VT1/VT2, race pacing. 45–60 min per test.

45-minute scenic drive north on Highway 1. Many Carmel clients combine testing with a Santa Cruz beach run or ride. Morning appointments to beat traffic.
