VO₂ Max Testing for Aptos Triathletes
Aptos triathletes train on Seacliff Beach swims, Soquel San Jose Road rides, and Nisene Marks trail runs. Our Santa Cruz facility is 15 minutes north via Highway 1 or Soquel Drive. Sport-specific VO₂ max testing on the Wahoo KICKR Bike and treadmill delivers bike and run zones for Santa Cruz Triathlon, Wildflower, Vineman, and Ironman. Know your exact pacing for each leg—and how to manage the run off the bike.
The Aptos Triathlete Advantage: Local Training, Precise Zones
Aptos offers coastal swim access, rolling bike routes (Soquel San Jose, Eureka Canyon, Corralitos), and world-class trail running in Nisene Marks. But each discipline demands different zones. VO₂ max testing reveals bike-specific FTP and HR zones, run-specific threshold and pace zones, and substrate utilization for fueling. Train on Aptos terrain with data that travels to race day.
Santa Cruz Triathlon: Local race, local prep. Get tested 8–12 weeks out for optimal training block zones.
Aptos triathletes ride Soquel San Jose Road, Eureka Canyon, Corralitos, and Highway 1. Run Nisene, Seacliff, Rio Del Mar. Testing applies to all:
- • Bike: Power and HR zones for climbs (Eureka Canyon, Corralitos) and flat tempo (Highway 1)
- • Run: Zones for Nisene long runs, Seacliff tempo, and post-bike bricks
- • Fat oxidation: Critical for 70.3 and Ironman—stay in fat-burning zone on bike to preserve glycogen for run
VO₂ Max Test: $250 per discipline. Korr CardioCoach, 5-zone system, VT1/VT2, race pacing. 45–60 min per test.
Wildflower, Vineman, and Ironman demand disciplined bike pacing. Going too hard on the bike destroys the run. Testing identifies your sustainable bike effort (Zone 2–3 for 70.3/IM) so you arrive at T2 with legs for the marathon.
