Masters Athlete Testing for Carmel & Carmel Valley
Carmel and Carmel Valley masters athletes (40+) enjoy an active coastal lifestyle—17-Mile Drive runs, Point Lobos trails, Carmel Beach, Garland Ranch, and Big Sur access. Specialized fitness testing is scarce on the Monterey Peninsula. Our Santa Cruz facility is 45 minutes north on Highway 1. VO₂ max testing delivers personalized zones so you train at the right intensity, recover properly, and maintain performance through your 50s, 60s, and beyond.
Why Carmel Masters Athletes Test
Carmel's 55+ community is remarkably active—golf, running, hiking, cycling. After 40, generic heart rate formulas become unreliable. Testing reveals YOUR max HR, ventilatory thresholds, and 5-zone system. Whether you're preparing for the Big Sur Marathon, optimizing golf fitness, or maintaining trail running longevity, personalized zones prevent overtraining and maximize limited training time.
Golf + fitness balance: Many Carmel residents combine golf with running or cycling. Testing helps you train for endurance without compromising recovery for the course.
Carmel-area masters athletes train on world-class terrain. Testing supports:
- • 17-Mile Drive / Carmel Beach: Zone 2 base runs, Zone 3 tempo
- • Point Lobos / Garland Ranch: Variable terrain—zones keep effort consistent
- • Big Sur Marathon: Zone 2–3 pacing for the iconic course
- • 45-minute drive: Scenic Highway 1 north to Santa Cruz
VO₂ Max Test: $250 — Korr CardioCoach, 5-zone system, VT1/VT2, age-group comparison. Treadmill, bike, rower, or stair mill. 45–60 minutes. Same-day results.
Masters athletes need more recovery and less moderate-intensity training:
- • Prioritize Zone 1–2 for most training volume
- • Limit Zone 4–5 to 1–2 sessions per week
- • Allow 48+ hours between hard efforts
- • Retest annually to track age-related changes
