Meniscus Surgery Fitness Testing
Professional fitness testing after meniscus surgery. Post-meniscectomy and meniscus repair recovery support with appropriate equipment progression.
Recovery timelines vary significantly:
Meniscectomy (Partial Removal): Quicker recovery, return to activity in 6-12 weeks
Meniscus Repair: Longer healing period, return to activity in 4-6 months
After meniscectomy (removal), recovery is faster:
- Weeks 4-8: Bike testing when cleared for cycling
- Weeks 8-12: Treadmill testing when cleared for running
- Months 3+: Full activity resumption
Meniscus repair requires longer protection:
- Months 2-4: Bike testing (non-impact, seated)
- Months 4-6: Progress to treadmill when cleared
- Months 6+: Full sport-specific training
Early Recovery: Wahoo KICKR Bike-seated, minimal knee flexion demands
Mid Recovery: Continue bike, increase resistance as tolerated
Late Recovery: Treadmill testing when cleared for running/impact
When cleared for running:
- VO₂ max test to establish training zones
- Start with easy running (Zone 1-2)
- Gradual volume increases (10% rule)
- Monitor knee symptoms closely
For athletes returning to pivoting sports:
- Cardiovascular readiness (VO₂ max testing)
- Strength testing (PT responsibility)
- Functional movement testing (PT responsibility)
- Sport-specific agility drills
VO₂ Max Test: $250
