Concussion Recovery Fitness Testing
Professional fitness testing for concussion recovery. Exercise tolerance assessment supporting graduated return-to-play protocol under medical supervision.
Current concussion protocols include graduated exercise:
- Exercise helps recovery (when appropriately timed)
- VO₂ max testing assesses exercise tolerance
- Must be coordinated with medical team
- Part of return-to-play progression
Standard graduated protocol:
- Stage 1: Rest and limited activity
- Stage 2: Light aerobic exercise
- Stage 3: Sport-specific exercise
- Stage 4: Non-contact drills
- Stage 5: Full-contact practice
- Stage 6: Return to competition
VO₂ max testing typically occurs at Stage 3-4 with medical clearance.
Some concussion patients experience exercise intolerance:
- Symptom worsening with exertion
- Cardiovascular autonomic dysfunction
- VO₂ max testing helps identify limits
- Guides individualized recovery pacing
⚠️ Medical clearance required before testing
- Symptom-free at rest
- Cleared for moderate-vigorous exercise
- No symptom worsening with light activity
- Physician or trainer approval
Testing will stop immediately if symptoms return.
VO₂ max testing builds confidence:
- Objective fitness verification
- Successful high-intensity exercise completion
- Readiness for sport demands
- Training guidance for final stages
We coordinate closely with your healthcare providers:
- Verify medical clearance before scheduling
- Follow concussion protocol stage requirements
- Provide detailed results to your team
- Stop testing if symptoms emerge
